There's one!

Volunteers needed for the great Langport lorry watch...

An appeal's gone out for volunteers to count lorries going through Langport.

The town's suffered for years from heavy HGV traffic, along Bow Street and around Post Office corner, but in recent months it appears to have become worse prompting local business Boilertec and others to call for a clamp down. Only a certain number of lorries have permits to drive through the town, which has a 7.5 tonne weight limit.

"Don't worry" said one of the organisers, "we won't be asking the local busybodies to wear bright bibs and point hair-dryers."

Lorry Watch is one of a number of community-lead projects currently running in the Langport area. Another highly successful one is Pikey Watch.

"Me and my mates have been doing that one for years" said a local farmer, "it comes with great perks...I've got a flat screen TV in every room and Nan's got her own chainsaw"

Anyone with any time to take part in the Langport Lorry Watch should leave their details at the Langport Information Centre.
