Flags on Huish and Langport church towers?

But what's a 'national occasion'?

An online survey's been launched this week to ask whether there's public support for flags to be flown on top of the church towers at Huish Episcopi and Langport.

Several churches in the area fly the Union Jack or the England flag on national occasions but not our two local towers.

The survey begs the question: what exactly constitutes a national occasion?

So we asked a church warden, who our reporter found hiding 9 crates of Port in the crib at St Mary's church nativity yesterday - and we were provided with the following list:

Royal events
St George's Day
Christmas Day
When we win the football
If we ever win Eurovision
When the Freemasons learn to park properly on Monday nights
When the boarding comes off the windows at Mr House's properties
and when your children can walk past Langport's town centre Christmas deer at night without crapping themselves.

The Tesco blue tokens people say they would support a bid for cash to help buy and install flag poles and flags for the two local towers, but there needs to be proof that there's 'local support' for the idea.

This is where Carry On Langport readers can help.

Click on the link above to do the survey. The results of which are shown to Tesco as part of the application to get the cash.

Great list, readers with any further suggestions should send them in via the blog's Facebook page.

That's it for now - more news as it comes in.
