It's official:
Former pub will be new transport hub for South Somerset
After almost 2 years of rumour and counter rumour, First Bus has today announced the location of its long awaited district bus depot and station for South Somerset: the historic Kelways building in Huish Episcopi.
Details are still coming but we understand the building will be converted and re-opened by the end of the summer with the current nearby Thai Mango restaurant being used as a ticket office.
Its manager Colin Foster described it as marvellous news.
"It means I can sell returns to Martock at the bar while the wife serves lamb curry out of a hatch at the back" he said.
But not everyone's impressed by the fact that the main Kelways historic building will not keep its pub status.
"Where am I supposed to fight over the summer?" said a single mother from the Bartlett's Elm estate.
A spokeswoman from First Bus said the company was seriously considering renaming one of their routes 'The Punch-Up Line' in tribute to the pub's glory days.
We asked her about calling one 'The White Line' as well but she hung up.
There are no further details.
