What's that all about then?

Coming soon to a big screen toilet block near you...

It's quite easy to walk past planning applications without even noticing them. We all do it.

Let's face it, most of us missed the original Persimmon Homes one for the land opposite Kelways...(and having a 'vigil' to save the beech hedge 48 hours before it was ripped out was about as useful as a chocolate fireguard - but let's not go there again)

So check out this one - above - which has been around a fair few weeks and a worth a look.

It looks like the town council's applied for permission to install some sort of large electronic flat screen somewhere on the toilet block in the centre of town, possibly on the gable end wall.

It would be used to advertise local events...we think.

The old-timers among us may say it's not in keeping with an old town centre and many of us will immediately ask "and how much money is that going to cost?!"

The flip-side of the coin is, of course, that there are often things going on around Langport that - once they've come and gone - we often find ourselves saying "I didn't even know it was on!"

Quite true, we all know the story of the Bonds Pool couple who had no idea the war had ended in 1945 until the staff of Eli's cycled through the Hanging Chapel half-naked on VE night.

So perhaps an eye-catching electronic board scrolling through local events is just what Langport needs.

Let's see what we get shall we?

As long as everyone gets access to it - mustn't be hogged by just one organisation such as the town council or the business group....any local event must be allowed to advertise.

- and what about after the 9 o'clock watershed? Can we have films?

Watch this space...or more to the point: that space....the one on the wall on the side of the toilet block.

That's it for this evening.
