If walls could tell stories...

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL PUB!

They've lived through some extraordinary tough times.

Over a dozen monarchs, the industrial revolution, two world wars, the three-day week, the winter of discontent and over 50 episodes of Are You Being Served.

Langport and Huish have just 3 of their original pubs left, ok the Arms is a hotel but the downstairs bar is widely considered 'a pub' by its users.

Now though they are facing the biggest threat to their existence yet. The full lockdown followed by reduced hours and customer numbers is devastating the British pub trade. Furloughs and government grants aren't enough to sustain these centuries-old businesses.

So now more than ever we need to support them.

There are some around Langport and Huish who perhaps have a rather snobbish attitude to local drinking parlours. The sort of people who don't mind paying 'Chelsea Road' prices for a piece of lettuce on toast somewhere else and who only go to a pub on Christmas Day for their free pint but don't put any money in the till for the rest of the year.

As we all know around here, pubs are Somerset's real-life version of social media.

[sorry Vicar]

The pub's where you find out who's doing what, who's living where and who's seeing who. Whether you need someone to fix your shed, a lift to Yeovil Junction or a trailer-load of logs....you'll find someone who knows someone who can do it at the pub.

Need a lodger? Thinking about getting a kitten for the kids or trying to find a labouring job? Put the word around the pub and something usually pops up.

Think about your local pub [and hotel!] next time you arrange a meet-up with family, workmates and friends. They're pulling out all the stops to stay open for you...see what you can do for them.

"We won't know what we've lost til we've lost it"

Wise words.

 You have been warned.

Please pass on and share this post....even better...mention it down the pub!
