It's the end of an era at Eli's...

But are we really saying goodbye to those men's urinals?

Around 40 years after taking over from their parents Eileen and Jim - this is siblings Maureen, Trish and Steve's final weekend at the helm of the family pub in Huish Episcopi.

So get down to Huish before the end of Sunday folks.

The farewell party continues tomorrow night [Sat] with live music from the Painkillers and then the last day, Sunday 31st October, sees the Old Boston Tea Party providing the music.

For those of us not in the loop, the trio is handing the pub over to the next generation. Old man Eli's great grandchildren in fact: Trish's son Ryan and his wife Anna Lee and Trish's daughter Lauren.

The pub closes on Sunday night until spring 2022. Not ony for a spruce up and the odd update [they're not giving much away!] but because it will take until then until the American-based side of the family, that's Ryan, his wife and children - can relocate over to England and the pub.

But there's still no word as to whether the infamous listed men's toilets and urinals will go.

Made out of 4 old chimney pots the weekend before the Battle of Langport, it's still the only place in the northern hemisphere where ivy can be seen growing in the window and turning straight back out again.

Also reportedly the only place in Olympic history where a gymnast doing a handstand can still get his feet wet.

So get down to Eli's this weekend folks to wish Maureen, Steve and Trish well - celebrate the handover and have your last drink in the old place until the sun comes back out in 2022!
