Volunteers Needed!
First thing's first: we fear we may be breaking a local byelaw by even referring to this year's Langport December illuminations as 'Christmas Lights'. But let's do it. It's what we all call them anyway right?
Yes folks the faction on Langport Town Council that doesn't care for age old traditions - probably the same individuals who decided the town should do diddly squat for the jubilee over the summer - is still alive and kicking.
So once again they are to be known as 'Winter Festive Lights'. Same nonsense, different year eh!
But whatever we call them, the lights look great and they can't go up without the help of our local councillors or volunteers.
Got any spare time this Sunday?
In years gone by it's been a case of turn up at the town hall on a time specified on a certain date and off you go.
You'd have thought they might have put all that information in the letter that's been delivered to homes up and down the town in recent days. Nope, not this year, far too sensible....
No folks, gone are the days when the community just turned out to help ad hoc. Looks like you now have to register your interest with the town clerk first.
Either way, the Christmas lights don't put themselves up so if you think you can spare a few hours this Sunday then e-mail townclerk@langport.life
Finally we can't end without pointing out the irony of the last paragraph. From the town that in recent years has, to the bewilderment of many, left its lights up well into February....it takes a cost of living crisis for them to finally come down when other towns across Somerset have always taken theirs down anyway!
You couldn't write it! (although we do try to!)
That's your midweek bulletin folks. Log in again soon!
