Vivien Westwood admits the garments she dressed Langport's Christmas deer in last weekend weren't her finest hour...
Tourist asks Langport couple if there are any cafes in the town:
Pitney pub customer continues to deny he regularly smuggles in his own food:
and in local politics, the public are invited to attend this meeting this evening [see below]
First let's just tackle a commonly held misconception here in our strange little town. Langport Town Council does not use our council tax payments to fund, support or maintain the town hall, the Hanging Chapel, the Ridgeway Hall or the town garden.
[which begs the question what do they spend our money on?]
The charity lumbered with funding them is called Landmark Langport and to say it is struggling financially is probably the understatement of the year.
Find out more at the AGM tonight:
Indeed this must surely be an issue which deserves to be brought up at the Langport & Huish 'public forum' meeting at the Primary School next week...why aren't we funding our public assets properly?
Also up for discussion is the idea of merging Langport Town and Huish Episcopi parish councils. Opposed over a decade ago at a rowdy public meeting, it probably makes a lot of financial sense.
The railway station question also appears to be on the agenda at next week's gathering.
Carry On Langport has never shyed away from its opposition to the idea. A train station would bugger up this community completely. Having Langport [or Somerton or Upton even] on the national rail timetable would cause house prices and rents to soar, clearing out working class locals for good and turn the place into a clone of other gentrified places like Frome or Bruton. No thanks.
Whatever your views, it all makes for an entertaining evening.
That second meeting [not the one tonight] is on Wednesday 7th December.
That's your Monday bulletin folks, thanks for the contributions and log in again soon!
