Coffee Morning 'out of control'

Footage from a coffee morning at Pibsbury has been passed to licensing officers at Somerset Council.

Several senior citizens expecting bingo, Nescafe and custard creams at a venue on Windmill Lane yesterday afternoon ended up dancing to local band Twisted Vinyl after an error with their satnavs.

"It's the first time I've opened my legs since 1958" said 91 year-old Mildred Roper, who asked not to be named.

Meanwhile at least 15 people hoping to find a 50th birthday in the area found themselves drinking Ovaltine and Horlicks at a 90th birthday just one field away.

"It was a right old mix up" said one teenager found wearing panty-pads and dancing to Max Bygraves in a local orchard.

"I didn't know you could do that with a zimmer frame"

An investigation's underway and there are no further details.

To Park Or Not To Park?

With more questions than answers currently flying around Langport about proposed parking fees, a handful of residents on Bow Street have organised a public meeting this week.

It's in response to what appears to be a total lack of communication with locals on the issue from both the town council and Somerset Council in Taunton.

"Isn't the carrier pigeon system working then?" said a town hall spokesman.

So go along to air your views and concerns and ask questions like....

How many spaces will be affected?

What will the fees be?

Will the 60+ households on Bow Street and Cheapside with none of their own private parking still be able to use the town's car parks for free?

Who owns our town's car parks?

Were any of them recently sold off and if so to who?

Will the town council actually benefit financially from the introduction of new parking fees?

And why, with a thousand fliers posted through letter boxes last week, is the meeting about the biggest shake-up in parking in our town's history at a tiny venue in Huish [not even in Langport] when the ballroom at a local hotel, All Saints Hall and the town hall meeting rooms are sitting there crying out to be used?

Still trying to get our heads around that one!

And Finally today....

Bowdens Bows Out

Things appear to have come to an end at the Bowdens Bar up outside Langport.

Here's the statement issued by the committee last week:

"Due to recent decisions made by the management of the site, it has become unsustainable for us to continue to run the community bar.

Therefore, the committee has had to take the unfortunate decision to close with immediate effect.

We would like to thank all our customers for their support over the past 18 months.

We would especially like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time, for free, to keep the bar running.

We hope you have enjoyed the past few months with us, we've had some great times, some great nights of entertainment and a lot of laughs!"

Bowdens Community Bar Committee.

What a pity, it was certainly a welcome addition on the social circuit.

That's it for today folks, thanks for the contributions and carry on reading!
