Pitney pansies confusion

Mayoress withdraws statement

The Mayoress of Pitney, pictured, says she's "horrified and disgusted" by reports that what's known in parts of the country as 'dogging' has been taking place behind the village hall in recent weeks.
However, within minutes of releasing her statement, it was pointed out to the Mayoress that she'd read the story in The Western Gazette which had mistakenly typed the letter 'o' instead of an 'i' in its story. The report in fact referred to two Pitney pensioners who'd been digging behind the community building in preparation for a bed of pansies.

The two local women, pictured, said they were 'delighted' their pansy story had gained so much media attention.
Realising the blunder she'd made - Pitney's Mayoress immediately withdrew her comments and has sent a full letter of apology and a dozen deluxe picnic rugs to the people who meet monthly on the A303 at Cartgate Roundabout. (usually the 25th).
