Somerton Police Station

Who's gonna referee the fights outside The Royal Oak?

It's with concern we read in this week's Western Gazette that Avon and Somerset Police still intend to close Somerton Police Station in 2017. (Langport's Police Station was burnt down in the Black Forest Gateau riots of 1981)
However, read on and it's not that serious. According to the Gazette, the force wants to relocate to less expensive premises and share a building with another public service. Possibly the local fire brigade.
What a marvellous idea. This could mean that thugs outside the Royal Oak may also be water-cannoned in future.

Police say their current building on Somerton's Kirkham Street, above, has become run down and is too expensive to maintain.
