Local election results...
Langport's new town council has been elected. 24 candidates stood for 11 seats and the great voting public has given us a mixture of old and new faces at the town hall. In no particular order, here's who got in:
Colin Edwards Janet Seaton Grant Wallace
Caroline Dunn Val Saunders Cara Naden
Ian McNab (got highest number of votes)
Ian McNab (got highest number of votes)
Anne Mitchell Chris Osborne
Angela Clarke Julia Gadd
The councillors, one of whom was spotted (above) celebrating in the drinks aisle in Tesco last night, will elect a chair person at their first meeting in the near future.
In the South Somerset District elections, the Lib-Dems lost the Langport seat to Conservative Clare Aparicio who runs the Parrett Cafe.
In parliament we all know what happened, unless you were watching back-to-back Carry On films on ITV4, which is that Somerset along with most of England turned blue. All the county's Lib-Dem MPs lost their seats to Tories including Langport which is now represented by local baker David Warburton.
Locally, a quick mention must be given to Champagne Socilaist Sean Dromgoole, pictured, of Combe who was the Labour candidate for Langport's district seat. Anyone who stands for Labour in the west country has an uphill battle to get anywhere, especially if you're driving out of Combe in the Aller direction. We salute Mr Dromgoole, who heard the news that he'd lost while ordering his jellied eels and chips at Fortum and Mason's on Piccadilly yesterday lunchtime.
