Fresh 'building spree' behind Kelways rejected
The combined efforts of Huish Episcopi Parish and Langport Town Councils appear to have helped defeat a planning application for over 70 new homes between the current 'new' Kelways estate and the tiny picturesque hamlet of Wearne - just up the hill behind it. South Somerset District Council has thrown out the project after hearing objections from both local councils and others. But those who want to preserve Langport and Huish's rural feel shouldn't put the flags out yet. There are still proposals in the pipeline to build over the old peony fields opposite The Kelways Inn - filling in yet another local green space.
Huish Parish Council Leader Dame Shirley Nicholas, on the gin again at The Langport Arms last night, was delighted when she heard the Kelways application had been rejected.
Langport's Town Council Leader has also been celebrating.
