Rumours grow of new ferry service at Langport.

There are increasing rumours around Langport this week (when aren't there?) that a 'local businessman' is to start a ferry service up and down the River Parrett at Bow Bridge. Details are still coming in but we understand that town councillor Ian McNab - who can't be named for legal reasons - has bought a second hand vessel from international operator P&O Ferries.

Exactly how any boat longer than 50 feet can get up and down our volatile river for more than a mile without getting stuck hasn't been explained but the news is already causing excitement across the town.
"We've already started printing menus so that Bridgwater residents can read them" said one of the managers at the Langport Arms Motel.

Councillor McNab - above right - was spotted at Stuckey's Island Lighthouse last night discussing the possible route of the new Parrett Ferry Service with the former captain of the Costa Concordia.
