Bristol Airport Warning

...as Langport Christmas lights plan emerges...

Air traffic controllers at Bristol Airport say they're "deeply concerned" at news that Langport's popular chain of bright white Christmas illuminations will be extended even further down Bow Street this year.

According to local website http://langport.life/ the extra bulbs will also reach further into North Street.

Somerton Airport - formerly known as Edgar Hall - and Pitney Airstrip have issued similar warnings.

The concern follows a major incident last Christmas (pictured) when a Ryanair jet coming into the westcountry mistook the Bow Street lights for runway 3 at Bristol and attempted to land just outside Chubby's.

Several hanging baskets were knocked off the wall at the town hall. Evening shoppers ran for cover and Ryanair later charged eyewitnesses at the Parrett Cafe extra...for having window seats.

Nobody on the plane was hurt - it took off the next day after some brief repairs and flew on to Westonzoyland Airfield where it had its outside toilets cleaned.

The light extension plan hasn't gone down well on North Street either. "...Christmas illuminations past my bedroom window?!" said one man, "''great...something else to keep me awake at night...I've only just got used to the overnight noise from bloody Tesco"

Langport's Christmas lights are due to go up on Sunday 20th November and the town council says it's looking for volunteers to lend a hand...and hold the ladder for Colin Edwards.
