Fingers crossed as Langport shopkeepers look out for 'Best British High Street' judges

Final touches are being put to window displays up and down Langport as businesses prepare for tomorrow's visit (Mon) of the judging team for the Best British High Street competition.

Because of the small size of Langport's population - the town's been entered into the 'village' category of the contest. A win would not only mean prestige for Langport but a cash prize plus free training and consultancy on how to boost its fortunes further still.

Tomorrow's judging accounts for 50% of Langport's final marks, the other half comes from online public voting.

So...front steps are swept, window displays are all in order, Priest Lane's been cleared of used prophylactics, One Stop's oiled its doors and everything's ready...

...apart, of course, from Hiroshima Town Clock...which this morning appeared to have been put back TWO hours instead of just the one.

The Best British High Street judges are due at around midday...any earlier Natwest would've been closed.

Good timing.
