Huish: elections update...

Stranger & Crumb

No...it's not a new Bow Street solicitors' office but the surnames of the two men newly elected to Huish Episcopi Parish Council.

Robert Crumb and Richard Stranger, both Newtown residents, were voted on to the local authority on Thursday.

453 people voted for Mr Crumb, 423 for Mr Stranger.

It's believed both men support the policy of allowing parish council leader Dame Shirley Nicholas to continue to claim a crate of Sherry per month - not gin as previously reported - on her expenses.

We wish them well.

In general election news, Somerton & Frome constituency candidate for the Labour Party Sean Dromgoole received a standing ovation when he rolled up at The Rose and Crown on Friday.

Drinkers were acknowledging the fact that Mr Dromgoole - pictured above left campaigning in Eastover last week - achieved the highest Labour vote on record for the constituency with 10,998 people voting for him.

An achievement indeed!
