It wasn't a typing mistake...

Local magazine got it right...

In a post last month entitled From Our Readers: Letters to the Editor a Carry On Langport follower asked whether a report in Levelling Langport magazine might have included a small typing error when it suggested that a lone driver [for example] turning up in his/her car at the Green Scythe Fair this coming Sunday would be charged £10 at the gate.

That's £5 per person and another fiver per vehicle.

This week, fliers and posters for the fair have appeared throughout the area which appear to confirm that the article was accurate. Entrance fees at the gate are indeed £5 per person and then - unless we are still reading it wrong - £5 per vehicle on top of that.

We all celebrate the fair's efforts to promote green sustainable living and understand the need to restrict our use of motor vehicles whenever possible...but a number of readers are wondering whether this isn't a bit steep.

"I've prescribed the organisers two reality pills before every plate of Kous Kous" said a GP at Langport Surgery, "but I think I may have to increase the dose"

A couple from Huish, who face being charged £15 when they drive into the event in their old Morris Minor this Sunday, E-mailed Carry On Langport last night:

"It's all very well cutting down on motor vehicle use......but what they appear to have overlooked is that the fair is in the middle of nowhere and is attended by hundreds of Somerset folk whose houses are also miles away in the middle of nowhere...out in the sticks"

"My only option is driving" said a Pitney teenager, "it's not like we all live on the Circle Line is it?"

An Eastover woman had another theory:

"They're trying to keep the riff-raff out....they want less Langport and more Long Sutton" she said, putting Jeremy Kyle on pause and tucking into her jellied eels.

Riff-raff at last year's event

"It's always a great day out" said a Moor Park Road man, " - and me and the wife still want to go...we're just hoping they might have Dianne Abbott on the gate taking the cash"

Further correspondence, from all sides of the argument, is always welcome so please do get in touch via this blog's Facebook page.
