Crowds turn out for Parrett ferry boat launch

There were cheers from the crowd on Cocklemoor yesterday (Weds) as the Costa Concordia made a guest appearance on the River Parrett near Bow Bridge.

The vessel, captained by Langport man Ian MacNab, was winched up on a crane in to the water (above) as staff from shipyard Harland and Wolff proudly looked on.

As a precaution, this family in their vessel The Carpathia turned up in case anybody went overboard.

There were unconfirmed reports Mr MacNab's timber-built boat went on to hit a beaver near Black Bridge but the woman later told reporters it had only caught her thigh.

There are no further details.
