Borstal opens its archives
The old Brooklands remand home has opened its archives and released this photograph of its inmates lined up for the 'Borstal of the year' beauty contest back in 1974.
The secure unit won the national competition hands-down.
Matron Mrs Derham, pictured with the children, survived the ordeal and is still with us - living in Huish Episcopi.
Carry On Langport wishes her well, many of us wouldn't have got through the 70s without her playing the piano at assemblies as we all shouted our way through 'Give me oil in my lamp'
