FAKE NEWS

Nope - sorry - that didn't actually happen

Our former town council leader and her supporters are, both in the local media and in Langport's pubs and cafes, still putting out the line that 7 people resigned in recent weeks because they "cannot work with anyone who breaches confidentiality"

Come again? Perhaps Langport voters cannot work with people who divert from an official council agenda, have a secret vote and then spend 8 weeks denying it actually happened and blaming the woman who had the moral compass to go public.

As the row rumbles on, we are delighted to suggest a book list for those who've resigned who may be in need of some bedtime reading as the cold autumn nights draw in and they have no family silver left to put up on E-bay.

 What about this?

'Are you sure?' - a book my historian David Starkey which questions reports in 1939 that Hitler invaded Poland. Apparently 50,000 Nazi troops crossed the border that morning in September to 'get their ball back'.

Or this?

'Sorry...that's confidential' - a book by acclaimed historian Doctor Crumbling Stonework which suggests that the Battle of Hastings never actually took place. Based on the 'missing minutes' of a Hastings Parish Council meeting on Tuesday 29th June 1066...it puts forward the alternative view that it was just a brawl over an out-of-date tenancy agreement for Windsor Castle.

Or even this...

'Don't be daft - that didn't happen' - by the Mayor of Hiroshima. The 95 year-old still maintains to this day that it was only his wife's deep fat frier exploding that summer morning in 1945.

All these and more are available at all good bookshops now.

Date for your diary

Regarding the Hanging Chapel, the parish poll on whether or not the town trust should have the power to sell off Langport's assets without the public say-so, will be held on Wednesday 27th of this month.

The only official polling station (voting cards are going out in the post) will be in the town hall. It's not an all-day vote though like elections. It'll only be open between 4 and 9pm.

As for the town council, with only 4 remaining it has become unviable and so the district council has stepped in by placing temporary individuals on the authority until the by-election for the other 7.

Nominations for that are still being worked on - with people from all sides of the argument jostling for postion.

Watch this space for more details soon...

...if you can stomach it - Carry On Langport is "all lies" apparently.

 Bit rich innit?

There are no further details.
