Beech Hedge Campaign

 Bird's eye view

Check out this aerial view of a large chunk of Huish Episcopi which shows what an important part of the landscape the beech hedge avenue is on the housing development land opposite the Kelways Inn.

The plot is smack bang in the middle with the landmark hedge cutting it in two. (Kelways is at the top middle of the picture)

Persimmon Homes is waiting for full planning permission to erect almost 100 new dwellings on the land but the application doesn't include the beech hedge. It's to be ripped out by Persimmon who have apparently said its removal "would enhance the development".

Ooh nasty, yeah I see what they mean...what an ugly bastard...give me soulless fence panelling in all directions anytime.

Whatever your view, if you'd like to comment on the application you can by clicking on the link below. This takes you to South Somerset District Council's website, then click the comments link and off you go.

There's also an online petition against the destruction of the beech avenue. Again, click below to sign up:

One more link and then we're done! Click on this one to go to the website where I got the aerial shot. You can zoom in and out and move around all over the area. Very high quality images and lots of fun, worth a look.

That's it for the moment - I am still looking for photographs of the blizzard of February 1978 if you are willing to share any.

Back soon.
