Squatters at Langport

Town centre's new phone box isn't bigger on the inside

Two popular Langport squatters, pictured, say they're "disappointed" the town's new classic red phone box isn't dimensionally transcendental.

That's Timelord speak for bigger on the inside.

But the pair, Annie Shillabber and Ian Macnab (both of whom have asked not to be named) say they're "delighted" the old style phone box has been acquired for the town and that it's main feauture is that it's got a cashpoint machine installed in its front wall.

Yes folks, we're getting another ATM.

Here it is being lowered into place yesterday.

The shabby glass-walled BT phonebox that used to be there has been taken away, we believe Langport town council leader Val Saunders may be using it in her garden 'to grow some exotic plants'.

"Is that what they call it these days?" said PC Brace from his stool at the Black Swan.

"Oh yes" said Huish Episcopi Parish Council leader Dame Shirley Nicholas, "my generation has been calling it that for years" she added, as she booked her tickets for 'The Bob Dylan Experience' in London next summer.

Anyhow - here's the [almost] finished product as of Wednesday afternoon. The cashpoint hasn't been plugged in yet and the phone, in an outside panel on the left outside wall, isn't installed yet.

We believe the urinal will be put up on the remaining wall on the right and that Black Forest Gateau will be handed out from a hatch at the back.

But we don't think you can actually get inside the thing, well not since Shillabeer and Macnab anyway.

 Looks pretty smart though.

Let's hope it lasts.
