Missing tree mystery: update

Many thanks to Fivehead-based tree surgeons Arbortech who have offered the explanation as to why a century-plus old beech tree had to come down at the top of Langport Hill next to the old convent this week.

Reading on Facebook? Remember to go to carryonlangport.blogspot.com to see the whole story with its pictures and ads.

According to a spokesperson, the tree was suffering from 'Kretzschmaria deusta', an internal rot which could've lead to what's described in the business as 'a ceramic break' - in other words the whole thing could've snapped and come down at any moment without warning.

It's not the first time a ceramic break has hit the town, last year there were several of them when an earthquake struck the downstairs bar in the Langport Arms causing 250 decorative plates to come off the wall.

Mr and Mrs Andrew Glide - pictured - who run Arbortech say they are "avid" readers of Carry On Langport despite claims from one of their staff that they simply "look at the pictures"

Either way, many thanks chaps and carry on reading.
