Monday Bulletin:

TOWN CLERK CLOCKED IN BOW STREET.

Langport's town clock came down today...on the town clerk. Perfect timing as local photographer James Thurtle strolled past and snapped this picture of the incident.

The clock's octagonal casing was to have stayed up there while the faces are repainted up in Cumbria, but with the discovery of rot in the old beam which holds the whole thing up - it had to come down too.

The beam issue throws a question mark over how much more money it'll cost and if it means the scaffold and traffic lights have to be there for longer than planned.

In the meantime, the old place looks rather lonely without old father time up there looking down on Bow Street...

It still chimes on the hour though, bit confusing for local drunks staggering home (I've walked back to work three times already this evening)

Many thanks to James Thurtle and Sarah Clarke who helped us acquire today's pictures and to the clerk for being a good sport.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY:

'TOWN FORUM' NEXT WEEK: The River Project

Langport Town Council is applying for a £200,000 European grant to build a boardwalk along this riverbank pathway stretching from Cocklemoor to Black Bridge. The money would also be used to build bird hides, improve slipways into the water for kayaks/canoes etc and for new signage.

If you have a view on this, get down to Great Bow Wharf 6pm on Tuesday 11th September for an open public meeting where you can hear more about it from town councillors and other interested parties.

SEAT VACANT ON LANGPORT TOWN COUNCIL

Next Tuesday is also the deadline to get your name down to become a town councillor for Langport after a resignation in July left a seat vacant.

There's no election, names put forward will simply be considered and then one of them selected.

The full election for all seats on Langport Town Council is in May 2019.

To apply to be 'co-opted' to the council next week, get in touch with the clerk's office on 01458-259700 or E-mail townclerk@langport.life

Tuesday's deadline is midday, be patient though...the clerk may still have a clock stuck round his head.
