Othery braces itself...

As Eli's skittles team heads to the London Inn

Staff at Othery's London Inn say they've been "hoovering all day" in the run up to this evening's arrival of the Eli's skittle team.

The frantic efforts follow 'Carpetgate', the 2016 incident when two members of the Huish pub's away team - pictured - suffered a 'gravitational malfunction' between hands.

"Yes, there were definitely hands between them" said eyewitness Stanley Spooner, who spent most of the evening down on the bar floor with Messrs Dromgoole and Stradling, "my wife's going to get involved this time" he added.

The season opener between the two Somerset teams kicks off this evening and the match is being sponsored by High Street retailer Carpetright.

That's it for this evening, more news as it comes in.

'TOWN FORUM' NEXT WEEK

Langport Town Council is applying for a £200,000 European grant to build a boardwalk along this riverbank pathway stretching from Cocklemoor to Black Bridge. The money would also be used to build bird hides, improve slipways into the water for kayaks/canoes etc and for new signage.

If you have a view on this, get down to Great Bow Wharf at 6pm on Tuesday for an open public meeting where you can hear more about it from town councillors and other interested parties.
