The deed is done...

Housing developer rips out decades-old avenue of beech trees in Huish.

Many Carry On Langport readers described last Saturday's valiant protest at the Persimmon Homes sales office as "too little...too late"...

While others expressed anger that [they claim] no local or district councillors even spotted that the original Persimmon application some years ago included the beech hedge/avenue's removal - or if they did, they didn't [allegedly] object.

- there's also been some anger that the tree protection officer at the district council in Yeovil, Phillip Paulton, didn't consider the hedge "worthy of retention"

Either way, it's farewell to what's been part of the landscape opposite Kelways since - it's believed - at least the 1930s.

R.I.P

Before we end, you may of course be glad to see the back of "that bleedin' hedge" and indeed be interested in moving in to one of the houses when they're complete...and why not?
