Off to pastures new...

Town Clerk heads off to new job in Bridgwater.

David Mears works his last day as Langport Town Clerk today (Thurs) before he starts work as Clerk for Bridgwater Town Council.

Mr Mears joined the Langport team in 2014 and has helped take the town through some turbulent times.

They include the aftermath of the row over the management of the Ridgway Hall - 3 councillors resigned over it just before he arrived - and then, last summer, the resignation of a further 7 councillors over a confidentiality breach which saw current leader Val Saunders go public over a secret vote on the future of the Hanging Chapel.

But Mr Mears, pictured top wearing his new Bridgwater uniform, told Carry On Langport he was "ready for anything".

Good luck David!

His replacement is Deborah Speed who hails from the Ilminster area where her previous position was as vice-Clerk to the town.

In true Carry On Langport style, we have already found an 'official' photograph for Ms Speed.

...which won't mean much to the under 40s but there ya go, something on the blog for everyone eh.

We wish you well Doris Deborah and hope David's handover note wasn't too frightening...just don't mention Huish Episcopi in the same breath as the word "merger" and you might make the 2020s.

That's it for this evening - more later in the week.
