Carol Night at the Halfway...

 Date for your diary:

It's that time of year again folks when a small brass band turns up at the Halfway House, Pitney, to see if it can play louder than the shouts and screams of a load of out-of-tune locals.

As always, some of the carols have been altered with slight changes to the words to give them a more 'local' flavour. This year they're dedicated to Langport - and we've been given a sneak preview of the first line of a few of them:

While Shepherds watched their flocks by night...Persimmon Homes turned up and built over the sheep they were tending.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...depending on what it's cut with.

Ding dong Merrily on High...okay okay, it chimes but has anyone seen our town clock?

Oh Christmas Tree Oh Christmas Tree...how lovely were your branches (in the Jurassic period anyway) - sponsored by the Langport Arms

Joy to the world (sponsored by a local award-winning taxi service)

Silent Night....until noise from the loading bay at Tesco wakes up North Street residents at 2 in the morning.

In the bleak midwinter...I died while waiting for a drink at that cafe...

and

I saw three ships - but then they sank when Councillor Mcnab sailed the Duchess of Cocklemoor up the wrong side of the river at Black Bridge

Carol singing (loose description) at the Halfway is on the evening of the 18th of this month.

Avon and Somerset Police say if any members of the Snowflake Generation think they'll find any part of this Christmas celebration offensive, then they should stay at home and wrap themselves in cotton wool until the 'nasty' carol singers have gone away.
