Langport travel chaos: India steps in...

Former colony offers UK town help

The Indian Ambassador to London has offered the Ministry of Transport advice on how to calm drivers down when stuck in queues for 5 hours in the Langport area.

Ruchi Ghanashyam, staying upstairs at the Cardamom this week, took his bicycle and cycled up and down the traffic tailbacks as far away as Curry Rivel and Somerton to offer his sympathies to those struggling to cope.

Mr Ghanashyam claims he and his family were once stuck in a 39-week queue when the clock was repaired at City Hall in Calcutta.

"It's often a good idea to pack a bowl, a potato peeler and prepare the sprouts for Sunday to pass the time" he told reporters, "and Nana would sit in the back seat milking the goat"

It's believed the Langport lights, around the scaffolding at the town hall, may be down by the end of this weekend.

"Thank the Lord for that" said Huish Vicar Jess Pitman, "I've had to cycle up from Black Bridge to get to One Stop for me Gin most nights this week"

There are no further details.
