Groundworks finally begin for Langport Station.
Almost 60 years since railway stations closed at Langport East and Langport West, preparatory works have begun this week for 'Langport North'.
Named after its nearest road, North Street, two platforms are to be installed on the embankments in the lead up to the viaduct where cutomers will be able to catch trains up and down the line between Exeter St Davids and London Paddington.
Somerset County Council and Railtrack issued a joint statement this afternoon regarding the new station.
Completion time is expected to be 2023.
