Chinese Ambassador "delighted"

...as Langport decides to keep up its Christmas lights for another 20 days.

Officials at the Chinese Embassy say they're "delighted" that a small town in England they've never heard of has decided to keep its Christmas lights up for the Chinese New Year celebrations on January 25th.

Forget the Epiphany, today, when the illuminations are supposed to be down by. This is modern Britain folks.

It's thought the move may be in response to the huge numbers of Chinese nationals who've moved to the Langport and Huish area in recent years: at least 8 since 2015.

There are unconfirmed reports the lights may stay up longer still for even more locally relevant celebrations such as Bastille Day [France] on July 14th and Hari Merdeka, Malaysia's national day of independence on August 31st.

- and in the last hour we've heard there are to be massive celebrations in Langport on March 8th, to mark the birthday of American Josephine Cochrane...the inventor of the dishwasher.

Marvellous.

Putting the cat among the pigeons since 2015.
