Black Bridge Pontoon 'swept off hinges'
This was the scene at Black Bridge in Huish Episcopi this morning after a tidal surge on the River Parrett last night forced the pontoon there off its anchors and back around up the nearby slipway, causing extensive damage.
Police say a family of Westonzoyland paddle boarders who'd been visiting Langport One Stop and were on the floating platform at the time were thrown into the water and had to swim to safety.
"It's disgusting" said one of the survivors, "the wife got her scratchcards wet"
Meanwhile, the Environment Agency is refusing to comment on allegations the surge was caused when a selection of 'unwanted underwear' was flushed down the toilets up river at Thorney Lakes campsite.
"Don't be daft" said a spokeswoman, "everyone knows we always give our Nudefest leftovers to the boys over at The Forge"
If you've had a surge in recent weeks, seen anyone from Westonzoyland with soggy scratchcards or given anything to the boys at Muchelney Forge......contact Carry On Langport via all the usual channels.
