High Street betting chain Paddy Power has opened a sweepstake on how many newcomers to Langport, who've moved in since the town clock stopped chiming, will start whinging about the noise once it gets repaired and starts up again.
"We think it'll probaly be the same people who lose the plot on social media when they go walking and see that a cow's got out" said a spokesperson.
Meanwhile the trust which looks after the Victorian landmark has issued a press release about the repair plans:
