30 years ago this week....

.....it all began!

In August 1992 this Somerset couple bought and moved their four children into the Halfway House at Pitney.

Within weeks Julian and Judy Litchfield began a major facelift including ripping out the old inside walls, creating a new bar, exposing the old flagstone floor and building an extension.

The landlord introduced a generous range of real ales and the landlady created a mouth-watering simple pub menu including her famous curries.

The refit along with the food and drink put the pub back on the map and within a couple of years they started winning one of what would be several county and nationwide pub awards.

Here in 2022 the Halfway's now on its third landlord/landlady team since its refit in 1992 and continues to thrive.

Both no longer with us, Julian and Judy injected new life in to the place back in 92 and we thank them for helping to create social circles and friendships which have lasted decades.

In our thoughts this week.

It's classic cars at Eli's this [Tues] evening from 5pm

50+ vehicles often turn up and there's a pop up Pizza service down there too this evening.

 Then on Saturday....

As part of a charity fundraiser, the people of Kingsbury Episcopi are coming out for what looks like a medieval trial this Saturday at 6pm where it's believed they'll be sentencing a local criminal.

George Litchfield, who can't be named for legal reasons, is expected to be forced to spend the night in the village's centuries-old lock-up [pictured]

A judge and jury will be there and no doubt some other nonsense. Maybe worth a look (is there a bar?)

Then a reminder about what's on up the rec' at the end of the month...

This one's happening on Sunday 28th with childrens games, food and drink from midday with live music from 3pm.

Also at the end of the month:

That same weekend is also the Halfway House beer festival with 16+ real ales on the menu plus live music on both the Saturday and Sunday.

There ya go! Whoever said it was quiet in the country eh?

That's your Tuesday bulletin done and dusted folks, log in again soon!
