Bank Holiday Weekend!

Forget local satire and having a moan and a laugh at local goings-on, Carry On Langport increasingly seems to be used as a what's on and events page.

No problem with that folks! Why not? Good to have it all written down in one place sometimes eh!

So here ya go then, starting with the pub at Pitney [pictured]...

😊

BEER FESTIVAL - Sat & Sun at the Halfway House with music on Saturday evening from Nevertheless and on Sunday afternoon and evening from No Fixed Abode, Meg and Bad Edukation. Marquees in the side beer garden to 'spread eagle out' the crowd.

ABBA NIGHT! - at the Drayton Crown on Saturday from 6pm.

FUNDAY FOR THE KIDS! - this one's on Sunday up Langport & Huish rec at the sports club. Lots going on from midday with live music from 3pm.

LIVE MUSIC - on Sunday afternoon from 3pm at Eli's in Huish Episcopi with The Bird Dogs [60s and 70s covers]

CHARITY CRICKET MATCH - who remembers local legend Godfrey Keirle? At Huish cricket ground on Sunday they're holding a charity match in his memory from 2pm. An old-timers side is playing the current squad. They're still looking for players too if any veterans can make it!

and one more for you:

REPAIR CAFE - Langport's very own Repair Cafe is back for its monthly opening at All Saints Hall on Saturday. A handful of experts and handymen and women are there to see if they can be of any help.

Gates open for 2 hours from 12:30pm.

In other news:

Well done to all the team down there at Bere Cider near Aller who picked up a string of awards at the Mid Somerset Show last weekend!

and

BEFORE WE GO...

Just a quick 'Carry On Pubbing' message to our friends at Drayton.

The Crown recently had complaints from some people living nearby about the noise of a band playing outside on August 19th and so has decided to move this Saturday's ABBA night music inside.

Very considerate of them to do so, especially on a warm summer evening. Of course many of us not in the pub trade would've told the complaining newcomers [if that's who they were] to bugger off but landlords and landladies have to be more 'can-do' than 'bugger off' these days.

[Especially when some of our younger 20-something readers can be offended by a tulip]

Holy crap! That's offensive!

But as long-time readers of this blog will know, Carry On Langport doesn't take any prisoners when it comes to newbies who start off by telling us how they love the place and how wonderful it all is around here but within six-months start whinging and trying to change things.

[No we don't want or need a railway station, no the church bells don't only ring on Sundays and yes pubs, village halls and other venues do have live music at night]

Our message to the Crown is...very nice of you to move your bank holiday music indoors this weekend but on behalf of all good great British boozers, don't wave the white flag too often. It could be the start of a slippery slope.

 You have been warned.

That's your Thursday bulletin done and dusted. Have a fantastic bank holiday weekend here in the centre of the universe, thanks for all the contributions and log in again soon!
