Many Carry On Langport readers will have attended Huish Episcopi Comprehensive over the decades which makes the expected damning OFSTED inspection report in the news this week all the more sad.
Here's a segment from BBC News today:
Social media has been unsurprisingly busy with reaction to the story, which many locals were aware of already.
Some comments and posts firmly place the rot at the door of a recent head teacher, others blame unmotivated and disinterested staff, some point the finger at parents.
There also appears to be an elephant in the room. A handful of parents, apparently afraid to say it 'out loud', have spoken to Carry On Langport claiming the arrival of a number of 'difficult' students from another part of England at the school in recent years is behind some of the problems.
Controversial indeed but perfectly legal to report if that's how some people feel.
[Late Edit: since posting this on Tuesday 17th, more messages, mainly from parents, have been received with the majority claiming discipline began to crumble some time ago after a series of allegedly "appalling" decisions by the leadership team]
It may well be a combination of all the above-mentioned issues. Either way, let's hope the secondary school where many of us spent our youth can find a way to turn things around.
