Midweek Bulletin:

Come on, come on - get it right!

As the flooding continues to cover thousands of acres of Somerset moorland, it's that time of year again folks when television and radio journalists across the UK entertain us with their attempts at pronouncing Muchelney correctly.

In recent days we've had "MuLchelney" from several media outlets. Even the newsreaders and traffic and travel reporter on BBC Somerset have been struggling.

"Mucheley" was their effort earlier this week, dropping the N completely.

The crime's even been committed here in Langport with someone in a shop queue heard talking about the car stuck in the floods on "MuchelnAy straight" [must've been a townie]

Still not sure how to say it? Just ask a cow. It's not rocket science.

 In other news...

This may well trigger an online debate about how tough your pooch is, but in recent days at least two dog walkers have been seen throwing sticks in to the river at Langport and their hounds jumping in after them.

The river is currently bitterly cold, fast flowing and riddled with undercurrents.

Whether you're local or not, let's just remind ourselves that over the decades the Parrett at Langport has claimed a handful of lives including at least two people who went or fell in whilst trying to rescue dogs in trouble.

Perhaps think twice about letting it go in at the moment eh.

Nothing's Changed! Read on:

A M Gould is an author and historian who regularly has her work published on the Somerset History & Mystery Facebook page. Her work regularly features articles from local newspapers in decades and even centuries gone by.

This week her post mentions floods in Langport 200 years ago. All the usual hotspots get a mention.

Take a look, this is from a local paper back in January 1823:

Water all over the levels and closing some local roads in winter, shocking eh.

SOMERSET....the clue's in the name!

Finally

You have to have been watching Top of the Pops in the 1980s to appreciate this one, but check out the food hygiene rating the Halfway House has just been given:
