Only two days to go!
[posted at 9am on Thursday 4th May 2023 - just in case the ladders appear and they've had a change of heart!]
Only two days to go until the first coronation of a UK head of state in over 70 years and despite public buildings being adorned with red, white and blue in the surrounding towns and villages - still diddly squat on our town hall.
But it's still not too late!
See those three large bay windows across the front of the 18th century landmark? Dangling a union flag out of each one would cost just £9 down the road at Tesco.
[Maybe even less with a club card]
But don't hold your breath folks.
Despite the fact that an old lady in her 80s can stick some bunting over her front fence and hang a flag over the hedge by her bins in Brooklands Road - here in Langport an entire town council, its poor relation the Landmark Langport Trust and the 3 admin' officers that go with them haven't managed to pull anything off.
And it's happened before - not a scrap of red white and blue on the town hall for the jubilee last year either. So it appears the rot, the 'we don't celebrate national events' attitude is built-in on Langport Town Council.
Nobody's asking for a street party, just a bit of colour about the place, bit of civic pride on the town hall frontage eh.
Even a tiny effort maybe, like nine pounds on 3 flags dangled out the windows?
The shop windows do indeed look great though and well done to all concerned. Just a pity about the baron streets and public buildings eh.
Somerton looks good though, so does Aller, and Long Sutton, and Ilchester, Martock, Keinton Mandeville, South Petherton, Kingsbury Episcopi, Drayton.....
There ya go.
