Town Council shows its true colours - and they're not red, white and blue!
As Coronation Gate continues, the bewildering row over why North Korea appears to be celebrating the crowning of a UK head of state for the first time in over 70 years more than the 'powers that be' in Langport....a new but not surprising twist has emerged in the last 24 hours.
From the horse's mouth, we've heard that at least one town councillor has expressed the opinion that this is an anti-royalist town and nobody cares.
How offensive.
We have to put the record straight here and say it's the town council [or at least parts of it] that's anti royal, not the locals who are busy organising street parties this weekend.
Ok, there are probably anti-royalists in the surrounding towns and villages as well but they've managed to put the flags out on their public buildings. Unlike Langport where you wouldn't believe there's going to be a coronation tomorrow.
'Baron' is the word many people are using. 'Piss-poor' is our description.
Also worth mentioning that Langport is probably heaving with non Christians too but the town council still puts the lights out every December.
So councillors put your politics aside, go down to Tesco, buy some cheap and cheerful £3 union flags and hang them off the town hall.
You're not compering the stage at Kingsbury May Fair now, or running your riverside cafe, you've got a job to do. Do it.
On a lighter front, despite our baron streets and public buildings [the shop windows look good though] we are delighted to report that our allegedly anti-royalist town will be flying a union flag off the top of All Saints Church Tower tomorrow.
Marvellous!
At least the Friendly Society and bellringers have made an effort eh!
