1953
Thanks to Maureen Crossman at Pibsbury for this little gem!
This picture taken in 1953 is the official opening of a new play area on land opposite Eastover railway station.
We've got some of the names, but not all of them.
In no particular order, we're not bothering with 'from left to right' etc, here's who we know is in there:
Cutting the ribbon are school children David Briers and Valerie Slade
Others present include Wendy and Maureen Cox, Rhona Slade, Olive Overd, Brian Overd, Phil Edmonds, Mr and Mrs Pitman (owned the shop opposite Whites the papers), Nigel and Michael Tilley, Jack Small with his daughter Diane, Mr and Mrs Rothwell, Mrs Cowlin, Don Bird and Mr Jefferies (at the front with the ribbon cutters), Frank Male, Mabel Mathews and Edna Wetherall.
In the background you can see the top of the bridge which crossed the line to the platform on the Garden City side.
What a great picture!
