New Council Less Than 2 Years Away?
The move to abolish Langport Town and Huish Episcopi Parish councils and create one new authority for both communities appears to have taken a major step forward.
Somerset Council is now being officially recommended to approve the proposal and it could all be green-lighted by the end of this year.
It could mean elections to the new parish of 'Huish Episcopi & Langport' would be in May 2027.
Between 11 and 13 [approx] seats will be available and individuals from either Langport and Huish can stand.
Here's a social media post from Langport Town Council's Chairman last week:
The move is also supported by Huish Episcopi Parish Council leader Julia Gadd.
So now it's down to a pending approval from Somerset Council in Taunton.
Before we finish, some food for thought here....
The new council could, in theory, have any number of combinations of councillors.
For example two thirds from Huish and a third from Langport (or the other way round), half and half, all from Huish and none from Langport (or the other way round).
The list of possible outcomes is endless and it'll all be up to us, local voters, to decide who gets in.
And more to the point, who's going to stand?
