Many thanks to reader Hazel who's sent this one in this week:
Collecting rubbish for the bonfire on Garden City Green in the 1960s.
At the top from left to right our Wombling friends are Ray Stuckey, Vince Stuckey, David Trim, Colin Sweet and John Stuckey.
The children below are Sandra and Carol Stuckey.
Despite some music historians claiming this was taken at 'StuckFest 1963' it's now been confirmed that no, they're just collecting rubbish for Guy Fawkes Night.
(StuckFest was always held in April)
Yes, back in the day before 'someone' either in the neighbourhood or on a local council had trees planted all over the green which meant the seasonal tradition had stopped by the 1990s.
What killjoys.
Hey ho, there ya go. 'Progress' apparently!
😡
PS - for those of us curious about the pros and cons of using A.I to improve the quality of old photographs....the image at the top of this story is the adjusted one.
Here's the original:
Definitely a marked improvement, but are the faces accurate or has A.I altered them too much?
No idea, way before Carry On Langport's time, can't help with that one!
That's if for now folks, many thanks for the contributions and we might be looking for extra writers in the coming months - the transport hub, the parking fees and the new legal objection from Huish over forming one new council for Huish & Langport are certainly filling the in-tray here at the moment.
Any chance you could do a bit on the side for us Langport - Where it's To?
😁
Bit of advertising for you just before you go, just when you thought there were no more excuses to celebrate our 'county tipple' - 2 more pop up!
This first one's just outside Curry Rivel, turn at the filling station heading off towards Westport & Hambridge and you should see the signs...
and this one's down at Low Ham next to the 'Church in the Field'
Happy cidering to one and all!
(yes - it's now become a verb - marvellous!)
