'End of May special' in staff canteen.
'Staff training' at Tesco this evening is to be in fancy dress to celebrate the last Sunday in May. Some tickets are still available and the side door's had a makeover to mark the event. But in a surprise move and despite their popularity on previous Sundays, cucumbers are to be banned.
"It's been getting totally out of hand" said the manager as he ironed his toga for this evening's gig, "Last week someone threw one over the wall into a gravel pile at Travis Perkins and by Thursday it was sticking out of a woman's patio in Curry Rivel. I just can't risk it anymore."
But it's thought many guests will get around the ban by smuggling in courgettes instead. The event, which the supermarket denies is an outright orgy, kicks off at 8pm.
Huish Episcopi Parish Council vice-chairman Graham Lock and leader Shirley Nicholas were photographed already in their costumes at One Stop about an hour ago. But Dame Shirley said she was "concerned" about the cucumber ban.
