Ding dong! Carry On!
There are tours of All Saints Church tower tomorrow (Sunday) as part of the Langport Festival. It's well worth a look, especially the six bells and the fantastic bird's eye view of the town and surrounding moors from the roof.
The church dates back to the 1400s and the first stone was laid on the weekend the Langport Arms went on the market. Leftover slabs of sandstone were used to reconstruct the men's urinals at the nearby Rose and Crown which were destroyed in a skittle match in 1436.
There are unconfirmed reports the Freemasons are objecting to the tower tour amid fears visitors on the roof may spot their hot tub at the Hanging Chapel. "What nonsense" said a church warden, "they should just draw the curtains - we've all seen it anyway."
There are also calls for no Pikeys to be allowed up the tower tomorrow because of what they'll see when they look down, but the same church warden refused to comment.
Three Langport bellringers - above - demonstrate the 'vertical clapper' method at All Saints tower during last year's open day.
Unfortunately, the nerds at health and safety won't let you just turn up and walk up the steps, you have to book first. Anyone interested in a tour tomorrow should e-mail nslangport@gmail.com.
