Hundreds head for scything event at Thorney.
What's becoming one of early summer's main attractions in the Langport area kicks off on fields at Thorney today. Hundreds of people are expected at the Green Scythe Fair where gates open at 11am. It's £10 per car but anyone who cycles or walks in is charged just £2.
(Marvellous value for money when you consider how we're all ripped off at the gate at the Bath and West Show). Those who do cycle or walk in get free tea and cake or a free bicycle MOT. (Rumours that several people with knackered bikes are planning to put them in cars and be dropped off 100 metres from the gate haven't been confirmed - but it's a jolly good idea).
Go and take a look - even if you're not a hippy and you can't spell 'scythe' - it's a fine day out and the jobsworths at Health and Safety haven't managed to ruin it yet.
Not everyone has to come with a scythe. Last year the manager at The Grange turned up with this device.
