Send in the Army!

...as "swarms" of immigrants storm Hanging Chapel Tunnel...

There are calls to send in the Army this week as the situation at The Hanging Chapel enters its fourth day. Last night, several Langporters - trying to seek a better life in Huish Episcopi - were seen trying to climb on the back of lorries heading through the medieval building.

In March this year the Chapel had to be closed when refugees, fleeing high Langport council tax bills, fled to Huish where residents pay less. But this week's events appear to be even worse...several Bow Street families have been seen pushing their washing machines up the river bank to Black Bridge and sneaking in to Huish via the Muchelney turning junction at St Mary's Church. "It's got to stop" said a Huish resident, as she hoovered her 28 bedroom house on the church corner.

Meanwhile, Huish Episcopi Parish Council Leader Shirley Nicholas has caused controversy by describing the immigrants trying to get through the Hanging Chapel as a "swarm". But Dame Shirley was unrepentant last night as she spoke to the refugees from the windows of the Freemasons Lodge:

"You swarm if you want to" she said, "the lady's not for swarming."

Unfortunately there'll be no coverage of this story in next week's Western Gazette, the front page is already taken up by 'outraged' Drayton residents whose bird tables are being raided by squirrels.

These Langport refugees were spotted waiting in a garden near the Hanging Chapel this morning.
