Church Fete

Come and check out the vicar's hollyhocks.

St Mary's Church Fete kicks off today at the rectory. There's everything you'd expect to see at a church fete, including a 28 year-old bottle of lemonade that still hasn't been won on the tombola plus a chance to see the the Reverend Jess Pitman's hollyhocks.

Huish Episcopi thanks Jess for all her efforts and all those who've put work in to today's event - and how marvellous that unlike Huish's last vicar...Jess hasn't sold the Vicarage on E-bay yet and bought Steptoe's Yard with the money on Bow Street.

Today's fete begins at 2pm. Go and support your church whether you're C of E or not...and be nice to the catholics...who are reportedly being allowed in this year but only if they don't bring their portable confession box which caused uproar last year when the priest mixed up a parishioner's order and gave a woman kebab and chips instead of fish cake and mushy peas.

The vicar of Somerton, pictured, won't be attending this year's fete at St Mary's. He's been barred after he tried to perform an excorcism on a Langport town councillor in the Huish vicar's gooseberry patch at last year's event.
