ARRESTS AT PITNEY

Pensioner 'catapulted' into coleslaw

Two men are helping police with their enquiries after a Pitney woman was pushed into a bowl of coleslaw at an event at the village hall this weekend. It happened on Friday as dancers were enjoying a live music night featuring Chris Jagger and Johnny Butten.

There are unconfirmed reports the attackers were Nicholas Wheller and Christopher Smoldon, neither of whom can be named for legal reasons.

Eyewitnesses say the two middle-aged men, photographed above moments before the incident, were performing their own version of the Foxtrot when they backed into local woman Vivien Winterburn who was reportedly going back to the buffet table for more pickled onions. Mrs Winterburn is said to have 'lunged in desperation' at a plate of chicken drumsticks as she flew past several onlookers and was catapulted into 4 litres of red cabbage coleslaw.

It's not known if she's been badly hurt but the coleslaw's still in intensive care and police are appealing for witnesses.

Wheller and Smoldon fled the scene and haven't been seen since.
