Thorney Lakes

Beavers to be re-introduced.

There's growing excitement across South Somerset as the prospect of beavers being re-introduced to their natural habitat near Langport grows closer. As many as 300 of them are expected to be set free at Thorney Lakes in July.

According to the latest edition of the Western Gazette a number of events are being organised in the surrounding area for the new arrivals including archery and airgun sports.

"I have to cross my legs just thinking about it" said a local farmer as he dredged his dykes.
While a keen Muchelney gardener said she intended to "give her clematis a good trim" in time for the summer event.

But some businesses are concerned it may all cause 'some unfortunate mishaps' around the area.
"We're thinking of slowing down the speed our automatic doors close at" said the manager at Langport's One Stop.
